Teo Chew Cendol Ice & Kacang @ Jalan Keng Kwee, Georgetown, Penang

The Famous Teo Chew Cendol Ice Kacang (RM2.20)
I am sure those who went to Penang before would have tried this famous Teo Chew cendol ice kacang. It is so famous that even the Singaporean famous artist, Phua Chu Kang has been there to try their cendol. For me it is the best cendol ice kacang that I ever tried and even better than those from my hometown and Klang Valley. The cendol (the green noodle) noodles are freshly made, and with the perfect mixture of homemade gula melaka, coconut milk, red bean and shaved ice, it forms a perfect cendol ice kacang! Seriously the best!
The Road side stall
When we reached at the stall, the queue was rather shorter but after a while the queue built up. Pheeww~~ lucky for us to order early. But not to worry because they are always efficient. It is not hard to locate the cendol stall. It is just along Keng Kwee Street off Penang Road but beware that there are two cendol stalls along that road. The stall with photos on it is the one and remember of their green white uniform. Most of the time the penangites will just stand beside the stall and churning up their bowl of cendol under the hot sun. However, you can always walk to the shop lot nearby which is owned by the same owner to have a seat and it is air-conditioned. This is to cater for the tourists. Must Try! Highly recommended! =)

Joo Heng TomYam Noodles/ 裕兴东炎面 @ Raja Uda, Butterworth

TomYam Noodles/东炎面
Joo Heng TomYam noodles is among the best place for dinner for the Penangites. If sour hot spicy food is your cup of tea, Joo Heng TomYam noodles is definately your choice. For the spicy food lover like me, tomyam noodles definitely suite me the best! This bowl of tomyam noodle cost me RM10. Is it expensive for you? For me, it is not because of the ingredients that I added on is seriously a lot especially their famous deep fried fish meat!
Add on ingredients
This is how you order at Joo Heng Tomyam Noodles restaurant. Pick any ingredients that you want to include in your bowl of tomyam noodle and hand in to them and you can choose the type of noodles you want either the normal maggi mee or bihun. They will then send it over to your table once it is ready. Quite a lot of add on u can choose from: crab meat, sausage, taufu, vege, beef slices, pork slices and most important it is a must to add the deep fried fish meat. Even it is dipped inside the soup, you can still feel the crunchy of the deep fried fish meat.
It is easy to look for the restaurant. It is just beside Raja Uda main street. Just go along the road until you see this lighted up sign board! =) Recommended!

Apollo Market @ Raja Uda 拉惹乌达,Butterworth

Walla~ My first post for my Penang first food hunting trip! We were so lucky to have one of my uni's friends to bring us around the mainland of Penang for food hunting before we cross the Penang bridge to the island. It was my first time actually to really visit the mainland. Before this I would never bother and would just cross over to the island.
Chao Lo Bak Gou/ 炒萝卜糕 @ Apollo Market
At first my friend brought us to this place known as Apollo Market by the local people. It is situated along side with Raja Uda Street. As told by my friend, Raja Uda Street is super crowded during the 9th emperor/ 九王爷 week. We miss it by just a week. Damn~ Anyway there is always next time. =) These were the few food that you should try if you plan to come to Apollo Market: Chao Lo Bak Gou/炒萝卜糕, Muah chee/ 麻糍, Wu Zha Gue/油炸鬼, Ham Chin Peng. For the Chao Lo Bak Gou, I would say it is better than those you can get in KL. The taste is better and it is rather brighter in colour because of lesser soy sauce.

Wu Zha Gue/油炸鬼, Ham Chin Peng

The wu zha gue and the ham chin peng is a must try here. You can locate the stall quite easily, just look for the stall with longest queue and you will find it. It is served hot and on the first bite on the ham chin peng you can feel the crunch of its skin. The filling of dou sha/豆沙 inside the ham chin peng is generous as well and of course it is HOT!
Apollo Market, Butterworth
Apollo Market is just situated beside the main road and easy to be spotted. There are a lot of other food stalls in the Apollo Market, Raja Uda. If you are not a big fans of those food that I mentioned, there is always other food such as char kuey teow, which is famous in penang! =)
